How To Get Traffic
Knowing how to get traffic to your website is the key to successful marketing and, ultimately, sales. Without traffic you will get no sales. It’s as simple as that. Luckily there are a number of ways to increase website traffic, and we will look at some of these here.
Traffic is the key to sales but content is the key to traffic. Whether you are using PPC (Pay Per Click) or SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to promote your website, you must have good content written around the right keywords in order to get more traffic. This aspect is covered elsewhere in MoneyMakingBuzz but, to summarize, all the search engines and every serious visitor will judge the quality of your website on the quality of its content.
Content will determine search engine ranking, which will determine the number of searchers being pointed towards your website or webpage. Once on that page these searchers will quickly decide whether it might or might not satisfy their requirements or problems.
Focus in both writing and keyword research is vital to get the right traffic to your webpages.

There is a second type of content to increase site traffic as well. This is all the syndicated articles and blogs that you write and distribute throughout the internet in order to get backlinks to your webpages. This subject is also covered in detail elsewhere but, essentially, the aim of each article or comment is to get the reader to click on the anchor text within that story or the signature block and thus arrive at the appropriate webpage.
Then there is a third and growing way to increase web traffic. This is loosely known as Web 2.0 or social networking using media such as Twitter and Facebook. These aim to build relationships between users in a multitude of niches and interest groups, mainly by posting appropriate comments or stories on issues of mutual interest. You can build a following of people who like and trust you, and many of these will click through to your website. The great advantage with this is that this traffic will be laser targeted on your website topics. Many will want to buy the products you are promoting.
Yeehah!
Use The Right Keywords
The content of all these compositions has to be written around suitable keywords. This is also covered elsewhere – see finding the best keywords – with one main keyword per webpage or article. Once you have selected that keyword, the article will fall in to place quite easily. I suggest that you always choose one main keyword as the theme for each piece of content, with three or four secondary keywords in support. The purpose of this is to make it quite clear to the search engine spiders what the page is all about. Never write an article without choosing the keywords first.
Where Traffic Comes From
Traffic to your webpages will arrive from several different directions:
- A webpage with well-crafted content written around a good keyword will achieve a high search engine ranking for that keyword. People searching for the keyword will tend to click on one of the top pages offered by Google or the other search engines. If your page is one of those it will attract searchers, who will click through to the page. This is how to get traffic the old fashioned way, and it is still the best way today.
- Syndicated content that you have posted on the net will contain anchor text linking to your webpages. Readers attracted by the content will click the link and visit the webpage. These backlinks will also come to the notice of the search engines and increase your page ranking. The better the publishing website the better the value of these backlinks.
- Text and signature blocks that you have posted in social media will also have links back to your webpages. People reading those will see the links and often click through and thus increase site traffic.
How To Get Traffic
This whole process works well but, for traffic growth, you need to keep writing. Or pay somebody else to do it. This is not that expensive, but I recommend doing it all yourself to start with. That way you save money when you might not have a lot but, much more importantly, you will learn the ins and outs of the writing trade and how to do it properly. This will put you in a much better position to outsource later work and to judge the results with a critical eye.
The speed of traffic growth can be slowish (SEO) or fast (PPC). Organic growth through using good SEO techniques costs very little (nothing if you do all the work yourself) but you can lose your shirt very easily with PPC if you are not experienced in the right techniques. I do not recommend PPC for beginners in internet marketing.
One final recommendation. Don’t be tempted to buy traffic using link exchanges, link farms or the like. The search engines will see through this and ignore the links. You will just waste your money.
The only way to get and increase website traffic is to write good content around the right keywords, and to keep doing it.
